Things to known and consider for each country of AEC


Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace (Brunei Darussalam)

Things to know
  • Capital: Bandar Seri Begawan
  • Language: Malay is the official language. A minor is English and Chinese
  • Population: The Malay 66%, Chinese 11%, other 23%
  • Religions: Muslim 67%, Wednesday 13%, Christian 10%
  • Regime: monarchy

Things to consider
- Citizens of ASEAN countries can have 2 week visa on arrival at the Immigration in Brunei.
- Avoid yellow clothes because yellow is the color of kings.
- Greetings by shaking hands gently.  Women will not reach out to men.
- Using forefinger to point to person or thing is considered rude. Use the thumb instead.
- Do not use your left hand to send to others.
- Women do not sit with their feet pointing towards the men and do not cry or laugh loudly.


Kingdom of Cambodia 
Things to know
  • Capital: Phnom Penh. 
  • Language: Khmer is the official language. Minor is English, French, Vietnamese, and Chinese. 
  • Population: The Khmer 94%, China 4%, other 2%. 
  • Religion: Theravada Buddhist
  • Regime: Parliamentary democracy with the King as Head of State. 

Things to consider

- Visa on Arrival by filling out the form with taking a photo and a fee of 20 USD
- Those who travel to Cambodia for doing business for a period of more than 3 months should be administered to prevent typhoid, virus A and virus B. 


Republic of Indonesia
Things to know
  • Capital: Jakarta 
  • Language: Indonesian is the official language. There are 742 different languages and dialects.
  • Population: Consisting of many indigenous groups. There are more than 583 languages. ​​61% of people  lived on the islands of Java. 
  • Religions: Muslim 87%, Christian 10%. 
  • Regime: democracy with president as the head of state and chief of execution

Things to consider

- Do not use the left hand to send things or eating. The left hand is considered impolite for Muslim Indonesian. 
-Do not touch or rub on Indonesian’s head even though of child.
- There are heavy penalties for possession of weapons, drugs, pornographic picture book.  Importation and possession of drugs is punishable to death. 
- There are heavy penalty on trade and export more than 200 kinds of plants and animals. The purchase or exportation the plants and animals out of the country should be checked first.


The Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR)
Things to know
  • Capital: Vientiane Capital Mon 
  • Language: Lao (Laotian) is the official language. 
  • Population: All together of people about 68 Lao’s tribes. 68% is Lowlands Lao, 22% is Highlands Lao, and 9% is High Lao.  Lowlands Lao, Highlands Lao, and High Lao refer to people who live in lowlands area, highlands area, and highlands area of mountains respectively.
  • Religion: Buddhist 75% and animist 16%
  • Regime: communism socialism. (The official Laos use the word of Democratic Republic). 

Things to consider
- Lao font similar to Thai font so it is not too difficult for Thai people to read Loa language but Lao people can read Thai language very fluently. 
- Lao driving on the right. 


Malaysia
Things to know

  • Capital: Kuala Lumpur. 
  • Language: Bahasa Malaysia is the official language. A minor is English and Chinese. National language is Malay
  • Population: The Malay 40%, Chinese 33%, Indian 10%, and Native Borneo 10%. 
  • Religions: Muslim 60%, Wednesday 19%, Christian 11%. 
  • Regime: parliamentary democracy.


Things to consider

- The Muslims people have special privilege to get funds of education, health, maternity, weddings and funerals. 
- Malaysia has a diverse ethnic population.


Myanmar (Burma)
Things to know
  • Capital: Naypyidaw
  • Language: Burmese is the official language. 
  • Population: All together with 135 tribes of people which comprised from 8 major ethnic groups, Burmese 68%, Shan 8%,  Karen 7%, Rakhine 4%, Chinese 3%, Indian 2%, and Mon 2%. 
  • Religion: Buddhist 90%, Christian 3.8%, Muslim 5%. 
  • Regime: the military dictatorship. Under the military regime, State Peace and Development Council. 



Philippines (Filipino)
Things to know
  • Capital: Manila. 
  • Languages: Filipino and English is official language, minor is Spanish, Hokkien Chinese, Teochew Chinese. National language is Tagalog. 
  • Population: Malay 40%, Chinese 33%, Indian 10%, and Native Borneo 10%. 
  • Religion: Christianity, Protestant Christianity, Roman Catholic 83%, Muslim 5%. 
  • Regime: democracy President is the Head of State and head of the executive. 

Things to consider
- The business in the Philippines need for a detailed study, especially in the field of law, the registration tax and labor problems, etc. 

Republic of Singapore
Things to know
  • Capital: Singapore 
  • Language: Malay is the official language. Minor is Mandarin Chinese. Singapore encourages people to speak two languages, English and Mandarin Chinese, for business and daily life. 
  • Population: Chinese 76.5%, Malay 13.8%, Indian 8.1%. 
  • Religion: Buddhist 42.5%, Muslim 14.9%, Christian 14.5%, Hindu 4%, no religion 25%. 
  • Regime: Republic (parliamentary democracy with a unicameral) The president is the head of the state. The prime mister is the chief executive. 


Things to consider

- Government office open Monday - Friday between 08.30 am -13.00 am and 14:00 am - 16:30 pm and Saturday hours are 8:00 am - 13:00 pm 
Illegal entry into Singapore and a career peddling illegal services w
ill be severely punished.
- Smuggling drugs, gun, and
other illegal weapons. The death penalty is severe. 

Socialist Republic of Vietnam
Things to know
  • Capital: Hanoi. 
  • Language: Vietnamese is the official language. 
  • Population: Vietnamese 80% and Khmer 10%. 
  • Religion: Mahayana Buddhist 70%, Christian 15%. 
  • Regime: socialism. The Communist Party is the only political party. 

Things to consider. 
- Government offices and public health service organizations open from 8:00 am - 16:30 pm, Monday – Friday
- Taking pictures of the building of the official state is not allowed
- If the foreigner bring into Vietnam more than $ 7,000 must be reported to Vietnam customs, and taking out Vietnam more than $ 7,000 must be approved by the National Bank or local central banks. 
Otherwise, the money will be confiscated. 
- Penalty in the case of, drugs, fraud to government agencies have the death penalty.

Kingdom of Thailand
Things to know
  • Capital: Bangkok 
  • Language: Thai is official language. 
  • Population: Thai 75%, Chinese 14%, Malay 3%, others 8% including Mon, Khmer, and various hill tribes 
  • Religion: Theravada Buddhist 95%, Muslim 4%, Christian and others 1%. 
  • Regime: a parliamentary democracy whereby the Prime Minister is the head of government and a hereditary monarch is head of state

- Government offices and public health service organizations open from 8:00 am - 17:00 pm, Monday – Friday
- The business in Thailand need for a detailed study, especially in the field of law, t
he registration tax and labor problems, etc.
